Real Time Bayer Conversion.

In some cases, it is necessary to acquire color from a bayer filter camera in real time. In order to do so, two alternatives are available. One is the use of a powerful computer or alternatively the use of a frame grabber with an board processor such as the Matrox Helios or Odyssey boards.

Acquiring a simple 640 x 480 image at up to 50 fps can be performed using our fast bayer filter conversion module which is less accurate in terms of color rendering. Beyond this frame rate or resolution we recommend using a frame grabber with an on board processor such as the Matrox Helios or Odyssey.

The advantage of using one of these boards is as follows:

• Preview images in real time.
• Preview in color.
• No requirements for post processing of the bayer filter.

Some drawbacks:

• PCI-X computer.
• Acquired files are in 24 bit color.
• No choice in conversion algorithm.
• Interpolation parameters can not be modified.
