Application note: Acquiring image in color.
With StreamPix, video sequences may be acquired in black and white, directly in color or in black and white using a bayer filter and then converted to color.
Acquiring directly in color can be done in two ways:
- Using color compression codecs. This solution requires the use of a color compression codec. The advantages are the saving in disk space requirements. The drawback is the loss of image quality that results from compressed images. For more information on codecs: http://www.norpix.com/applications/compression_codecs/ieee_codecs.php
- Acquiring in un-compressed formats. This option requires the use of larger hard disk space but provides better image quality for post processing in standard image analysis software packages. Two extra hard disk drives are recommended to acquire either RGB or NTSC signals. Follow these steps to properly configure the computer.
- Install two extra disk drives in the pc and stripe them off the primary controller.
- Install the OS disk off the secondary controller.
Acquiring with Bayer filters is much simpler.
- Acquire directly in black and white mode then use the StreamPix Bayer Filter PlugIn module to convert the sequence from black and white to color.
